Total Jobless Benefit Rolls Top 5.5M

Based on the most recent figures from the U.S. Department of Labor, the labor market is still notably weak. In fact, first-time unemployment insurance claims increased to 652,000 - from 644,000 this time last week and from 367,000 this time last year. Also, continuing claims increased by 122,000 to 5.56 million - the highest number since 1967 and proportionate to the workforce, the highest number since May 1983.
